Here are a few easy drills you can do at home to sharpen your boxing game.
1. Shadowboxing
This is the bread and butter of boxing practice. Stand in front of a mirror if you can, and run through your punches and footwork as if you were in a real fight.
Work on your jab, cross, and simple combinations. Focus on keeping your hands up, staying light on your feet, and moving in and out.
2. Footwork Ladder (No Ladder Needed)
Good boxing starts with good feet. Pick a small space and practice stepping forward, backward, left, and right — always returning to your boxing stance.
You can even mark a few squares on the floor with tape or chalk to mimic a ladder drill.
3. Core Work
Your punches come from your core, not just your arms. Add some core exercises like planks, sit-ups, and Russian twists into your home training to strengthen your foundation.
4. Defensive Slips
Stand in your stance and imagine a punch coming toward you. Practice slipping left or right by bending your knees and moving your head just off the center line. This keeps your defense sharp, even without a partner.
5. Conditioning Rounds
Set a timer for 2–3 minutes and alternate between high knees, push-ups, and burpees. It mimics the high-intensity nature of boxing rounds and helps build endurance.
